Happy New Year/ Gold Hill

Gold Hill, Colorado

One of my favorite places to ride in Boulder, plus it's a hour climb to get there. Gold Hill sits at 9,000 ft or so give or take. The Town is filled with small Cabins, Great views and a Small General Store. I love to ride through there!!! Plus, Leora was born there. Pretty cool.

Sunday, Jason D and I rode some dirt Roads North of town where I was surprised to see a lot less snow. Great Ride!!

Friday, I'm off to camp in CA, Looking forward to it!!!

Happy New Year !!!!

Jimmy V week

check out his speech, just before he died of cancer... pretty inspirational

http://jimmyv.org/rememberingjim/espy.cfm

Jim Valvano once commented, "There are 86,400 seconds in a day. It's up to you to decide what to do with them." Jim decided that he would do it all. He reached the highest level of success as a basketball coach and then as an award-winning commentator at ABC and ESPN. He authored three books, gave hundreds of
motivational speeches to corporations across the country, hosted weekly television and radio broadcasts, created his own corporation, JTV enterprises, to oversee his many entrepreneurial endeavors, and showcased his fabulous sense of humor during his guest spots on The Tonight Show, David Letterman, and The Cosby Show.

Give me a wave!!!!

This is how it's done, big wave, big smile!!!

I would say out on the road, 2 out of every 10 people wave. I think we can do better!

Here is what you might see.. There's the low wave, Flicking the hand slightly or biker wave. There's the head nod. There's the shun, don't even look, just ride by. There's the turn your head and stair(my personal favorite)There's the smile,(all most there)and finally there is the big wave and big smile...

So if you happen to see me out on the road, I'm going to give you a big wave and a big smile. I hope you can give me the same in return...

Just Like old times....

Jason, Ryan and I

I'm a lucky guy!! Not many people can hang out with good friends while working....
I decided to head up to Boulder to meet Jason D, Ryan Hamity and Allen for a ride. It's always nice catching up with those guys. I went to HS with Ryan and Allen, and College with Jason. Ryan and Jason were teammates of mine on Einteins last season, and we had a lot of success. I think one of the reasons for our sucess was, we not only raced hard, but we had a lot of fun doing it. There was no stress, we were confident, and we knew we were going to ride well. I always want to keep theses memories close, and remember to never take cycling to to serious. After all, it's just pedaling a bike and I'm lucky enough to do it for a living.

Swear

Sunday afternoon just after I got back from a ride with my buddy Scott Nags, I got a call from my dad asking if I saw the Broncos Game.. I said no and he asked if my other buddy Scott, (we call him swear) was at the game. I said I'm not sure, but he might have gone. My dad was like... yeah, I think i just saw swear dressed in a banana suit at the game, the camera was panned on him for a bit and the announcers made a few comments about him... I got off the phone with my dad and later I saw that I had a message, and sure enough it was swear. he was yelling, all pumped up saying yeah, I'm at the broncos game sixth row woooo!! so funny!!!
this is a picture one of our friends took, of swear in a banana suit on the TV.

China/ US Pro

Having the opportunity to go to China and race my bike was a life experience. Up until a few weeks ago, I never thought I would ever make it to china, and when I got the call from Gavin, I was pretty excited to say the least!!! I pretty much gave all I had for the rode race. The Course suited me well and I was pretty motivated to get a result. The course was incredible... the race was 110 miles finishing with 4 18 mile circuits surrounded by the great wall. Fans were lined the whole way along the course 10 deep, it was pretty cool to see!
Scott Nydam rode amazing!!!!!! working for me in the final. I ended up 9th which i was pretty happy with. It was cool throwing it down with the Pro Tour guys, It gave me an idea where I stand against them. I definitely have some work to do....I'm sure it was pretty easy for Cadel who got 4th, and I would say the last 40 miles was the hardest I have ever had to race.

The last few weeks, I would say I haven't had the best of luck with staying healthy.... After the RR in Beijing I got some kind of bug that has stayed with me the last we weeks and then a cold 2 days before US Pro's. I was able to finish US Pro's, But it was frustrating not being 100%%, I guess that's How it goes sometimes. Just got to roll with it and Move on. I'm already looking forward to next year's race!!!!

Next week is my final race of the year.... Tour Of MIz. I'm looking forward to being home this week, getting back to feeling good and spending time with Leora. I'm hoping to get some results and finish off the season strong. Until Next time... take care.

Things are pretty exciting for me right now. It's a busy time, but exciting!!! I'm getting married this fall, I just moved to a new house in Fort Collins, and I'm going to china next week. On top of that Ive had a pretty good month of training/ racing. Cascade went well, and even though toona didn't turn out how I wanted, I had some good form. So with that said.... life is pretty good right now and I'm lucky to be a bike racer! With a little over 5 weeks left in the season, I really want to finish off strong. Thanks to everyone who has supported me over the last 8 months, I couldn't do what I do without you!!!

Congrats to Dan S for his win at the Bannock crit .

Nydam 3rd

Congrats to Scott Nydam for his 3rd place today. The team rode well, Nydam got in a break of 5 guys that took it to the line around 50 seconds ahead of the field. I stayed out of trouble with Sayers keeping me out of the wind and up front for the finish.

No results from yesterday, after a few guys cut the course. David would have gotten 5th and I may have gotten 10 or so. I'm feeling good and looking forward to Saturdays stage.

Toona

It's a bummer about the tour. It's never good when you're involved in a sport, where doping, cheating is such a problem. Its depressing and sometimes you feel like there is no hope. I don't really feel that way. Dan put it this way... he said it's good that these dudes are getting busted, cuz there are jobs that are going to be opening up for the guys who are clean and want to make a good impression on the sport. that is dead on. Even though all this negative stuff is going on ultimately it's good for the future of our sport, getting rid of cancer.

Stage 3 97 miles-
We are beginning to ride really well as a team. I ended up in a small break over the climb only to get caught on the decent by 20 guys. it's nice when you look back and you see 6 of your teammates in the final selection. More guys caught on the decent, with 55 guys racing to the line for the finish. We rode aggressive at the end, I attacked, David attacked. Scott and Ian rode great covering early moves in the aggressive first Hour of the race and still making it in the front group, and Moninger riding well as always. Mike, Dan and ken kept us out of the wind and rode well all day. We wanted to set up David for the win, Menzies took it, (after cutting the course). I think David got 5th. I'm happy with how the team is coming together. I think success is on the Horizon.

toona

Faster Faster!! Today is a new day and I'm looking forward to whats to come this week. We have a lot of racing to go, and we are in a good spot to be aggressive. Todays stage is a new course, it's 50 miles and has a lot of climbing, so it should be good for the team.

(Pic above) is my roommate SN With his new haircut.

Can' t we just Enjoy to tour???

Michael Rassmussen a Doper or NOt a Doper??? I'm going to say No. What do you think????/ last week sinkewizs from t-mobile got busted, and this week it's been all about michael Rassmussen, who is leading to tour at the moment. Today, this former colorado Mt Biker Whitney Richards, confessed to VeloNews that in 2002, Rasmussen asked him to transport a box which richards thought was cycling shoes. But the shoebox, actually contained bags of a human blood substitute.
I think it's cool that the dude cofessed, but why didn't he do it earlier. Rasmussen has had a lot of sucess with winning the KOM Jersey the last two years.if he wanted to get him why did he wait??? why is he coming clean now?? anyway, I think i'm just going to get back to enjoying to tour. scew all this doping shit!!!!http://www.velonews.com/tour2007/news/articles/12851.0.html

Fishing

So I went fishing tonight, out at these ponds near my house. I thought it would be nice way to get out and do something relaxing. Not exactly! My buddy Nate got his leg stuck in a shallow muddy section of one of the ponds, fell in at the same time. He lost one of his sandals in the mud during his fall. I broke one of my sandals trying to help him out. Nate got out, covered in mud. Later after a few laughs, My pole broke and my line got caught on a cat tail. So Even though, we didn't catch any fish and we had a few mishaps, it was well worth it,and it was pretty funny.

so close but gotta keep trying

The last two days we have been about 1k short of the win. Yesterday, nydam/ and i were very close but only fading in the last k. Today more of the same, Victoria got up the road at the start of the climb, the selection was made and as Toyota brought the gap down, I jumped across to vics group (took me a bit), it was down to lowder, victoria and myself with a k 1/2 to go. Lowder gave a hard punch and vic was done and I was just trying to hang on with 1 k to go. the group of 8 remaining, had us in there sites. phil z from the navs came across blew my me and moments later so did the rest. at that point is was up to Moninger and Nydam for the win. I think Moninger was 5th naydam was 8th and I was around 10th place?? not for sure? we did put 4 guys in the top 15 so our team GC IS looking good and hopefully nydam is still in the kom jersey. The team rode great and i think our day will come very soon.

Tour Picks

I was reading Nydam's blog, and he had a few predictions for the tour. So, Here is my pick:
It's a tough decison but I picked one of Astana top hopes for the overall. (pictured left) Astana has been keeping him secret until now. I hear the guy can climb, TT, and he is in excellient shape. I always like to pick the underdogs.

Hungry anyone??

Happy 4th to Everyone!!
It's Crazy how fast things change in a year, and they definitely have changed for me. Last Year at this time, I was Living with my parents, I was racing for Einsteins, I didn't have any money, and I was traveling around the country in a van. It may sound like I'm complaining, I'm actually not. I'm very thankful for those Experiences. Looking back, I was hungry and thinking about it, I don't ever want lose that. Something to think about.............

Cascade- July 11-16
Toona- July 23-29
US Pro RR- Sept 1-3
Tour of Missouri- Sept 11-17
